Trustees
The founding trustees are Jane Payne and Pippa Shaper. Other Trustees are Nicky Thompson and Anna Vayanos.
You'll find short biographies of the trustees and office staff at Home from Home below - but there are also hundreds of people we can't name: the builders who help build our homes, the people who selflessly donate time and money and goods to furnish and equip our houses, and friends who so readily come to help when needed. We wouldn't be here without each and every one of them.
Jane Payne
Jane is a social worker with over 20 years experience in the field of child care. She has worked at Child Welfare Society, in a Children’s Home for troubled teenagers and at Nazareth House caring for H.I.V. positive children. Whilst at Nazareth House Jane was actively involved in setting up various community based projects for H.I.V. positive adults and children.
After opening two Community Homes for orphaned and abandoned children in Khayelitsha and seeing how happy and well adjusted the children were, Jane and Pippa Shaper decided to form an NGO to provide community-based care to ensure that more children are given a chance of a family life.
Jane feels very fortunate that she can help provide a loving and safe home for vulnerable children. |

Pippa Shaper
Pippa started her career in the retail trade in the UK before settling in South Africa. In 1995 when she heard of the work being done by the Sisters of Nazareth to help children with HIV/AIDS, Pippa offered her services to Nazareth House Cape Town.
She was involved extensively in the setting up of the Lizo Nobanda projects for Nazareth House in Khayelitsha and it was seeing the tremendous benefits from this community work that led her to co-founding Home from Home with Jane Payne in 2005. Pippa is also the trustee of several overseas foundations and represents them in SA. |
Nicky Thompson
Nicky has been a Volunteer Child Sponsorship Coordinator for Nazareth House for the past five years and offered her services to Home from Home in 2005. Nicky gives of herself freely and is always available to help out in the myriad tasks required in the running of numerous Home from Home projects. She can be called on at any time and is always willing to go the extra mile for what she believes in. Nicky, a mother herself, has much compassion for the children whom Home from Home cares for and is always going out of her way to collect donations and to spread the word about the organisation and share their vision.
